Outlook Express How to Delete IMAP Email (remove crossed out version)
August 31, 2008
In the IMAP standard, when you ‘delete’ an item, it isn’t actually deleted permanently. Instead, it’s simply marked as ‘deleted’. This is often displayed in email clients as a crossed-out email. At this stage, the email still exists in your mailbox, taking up spaceand still appears in your email list . It’s merely been flagged for deletion. To actually delete the item permanently, you have to ‘purge’ the mailbox. Most IMAP clients have an option in one of the menus or on the toolbar called ‘purge’ or ‘expunge’. This is what permanently deletes the email.

Google Search Upgrade: Google Suggest
August 27, 2008
Google has announced that their Suggest search tool will come out of Labs and release on the main Google search page. While many consumers may find this to be a helpful hand when searching, what does it mean to your business?
As users get accustomed to seeing and using search suggestion, odd keywords, misspellings and long-tail terms could become less relevant. As the suggestion tool “learns” from user queries, the searcher will spend less time dreaming up keyword terms. Instead, they will enter a few broad terms and start looking at the suggestion box for their final search term. From an SEO perspective, this means that your keyword research needs to get in high gear. You need to make sure that you are optimizing your pages and your tags for broad, industry terms.
But there’s another view to consider. It could be argued that people will still search long tail phrases - Suggest could even broaden some searches from one or two words to longer, long-tail terms and phrases through the suggestion tool itself.
It also is likely that the PPC marketplace is going to narrow - meaning that key terms are going to get even more competitive than they already are. That, in turn, will drive more businesses to focus on their SEO efforts. This is good reason to start sculpting your pages to better reflect your industry than your individual products, services or specialized terminology.
In reality, it will be months before we see the true impact of Google Suggest. And, some search verticals will undoubtedly be more affected han others. Therefore, using analytics to watch your keywords is going to be more important than ever before.
If you haven’t already, start searching your industry, your competitors and your own website on Google Suggest. It might also be a good idea to run some focus groups with searchers to find out how they are using Suggest to find what they want in your industry. The sooner you can master the language of this new, soon-to-be universal tool, the sooner you can make sure your site doesn’t get lost in the mix.
Obama Chooses Biden
August 23, 2008
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has chosen veteran Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden, a leading voice on international affairs, as his vice presidential running mate, his campaign said on Saturday.
Biden, 65, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is one of the most knowledgeable Democrats on foreign policy — an area where Obama, a first-term senator from Illinois, has been criticized as inexperienced.
Ending days of speculation, Obama announced the decision on his Web site, featuring a photo of the two, and his campaign sent a text message and e-mail to supporters.
“Barack has chosen Joe Biden to be his running mate,” the announcement said. “Joe Biden brings extensive foreign policy experience, an impressive record of collaborating across party lines, and a direct approach to getting the job done.”
Biden is to travel to Springfield, Illinois, to join Obama for their first campaign event later on Saturday.
Biden, a Roman Catholic originally from the battleground state of Pennsylvania, will bring not only foreign policy expertise to the ticket but strong working-class roots.
That could help Obama connect with the blue-collar voters he has failed to attract in the run-up to the November 4 election against Republican John McCain. Obama and McCain are neck and neck in opinion polls.
Biden’s 2008 presidential bid fell flat but he proved a forceful and aggressive debater, firing off some of the toughest criticisms of Republican President George W. Bush.
The choice of Biden, who was first elected to the Senate in 1972, indicates Obama was more interested in filling gaps in his foreign policy experience than in finding someone who could reinforce his message of bringing change to Washington.
The Delaware senator emerged as a strong possibility late on Friday after three other contenders — Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton — reportedly were told they had not been selected.
Clinton, beaten by Obama narrowly in a bitter struggle for the Democratic nomination, welcomed the selection of Biden, who she described as “an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant.”
“Senator Biden will be a purposeful and dynamic Vice President who will help Senator Obama both win the Presidency and govern this great country,” she said.
The Devil Cat - Four-Eared Freak
August 22, 2008
The owners of a cat with four ears named Yoda have been inundated with television offers and media inquiries since their son posted a photo of their smoke-colored cat on a Web site. That turned the four-eared feline from a suburban animal oddity into an instant Internet celebrity.
Ted and Valerie Rock, from a Chicago suburb, have fielded calls from “Good Morning America,” “Fox News” and “The Tyra Banks Show.” The cat’s photo has graced the London Guardian and a British tabloid. The Daily Mail said if Batman had a cat, it would be Yoda.
“It’s amazing,” Ted Rock said. “For the past few days, our phone has just been ringing off the hook.”
Yoda’s extra ears give him a hint of a devilish appearance. The Rocks said they found him in 2006 while watching a Chicago Bears game at a Blue Island bar.
Some in the bar were passing the then-eight-week old kitten around, making fun of his extra set of ears, mocking his appearance and calling him names such as “Devil Cat”.
It wasn’t quite love at first sight, but the Rocks felt sorry for the cat and offered to adopt the kitten from the bar’s owner, who kept the animal caged atop the bar for his customers’ amusement.
Dead Man Standing
August 20, 2008
A Puerto Rican man has been granted his wish. His mother asked the funeral home to fulfill her dead son’s last wish by having him stand for his three-day wake.
The funeral home used a special embalming treatment to keep the corpse of 24-year-old Angel Pantoja Medina standing upright for the 72 hour viewing.
He was dressed in a Yankees baseball cap and sunglasses while propped upright in his mother’s living room.
His brother Carlos said Anjel had l wanted to be upright for his own wake: “He wanted to be happy, standing.”
Pantoja was found dead Friday underneath a bridge in San Juan. Police are investigating his death.
